I recently had the opportunity to hear Jan Schultink present a webinar as part of the Outstanding Presentations Workshop series. Among his many great points was a statement to the effect of the one above: Make sure your PowerPoint does not look like PowerPoint.
It struck me that in this simple statement lived so much of what is wrong with many presentation visuals. The second you look at it you go: “Oh, more PowerPoint slides.” Sigh.
Many people have written about not using bullet points and more effective use of imagery, but I like the simplicity of this. Just stop making PowerPoint slides that scream, “Hey, I’m a PowerPoint slide.”
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
